Why is my fuse box tripping?
Your RCD is designed to detect earth leakage and trip the power in the event of a fault. This can be caused by a number of different things, but in our experience it’s most commonly found to be a faulty appliance. Make sure these are all removed from the sockets before trying to reset the trip switch. If you are still unable to reset it, it’s advisable to call a certified electrician for a thorough inspection.
Is my fuse board out of date?
If you’re fuse board has rewirable or cartridge fuses, it’s almost certainly due for an upgrade. However, just because it has MCB trips, it doesn’t mean its up to date. The most important devices to have in your consumer unit is RCD’s. It can be impossible to keep up with changing regulations, but RCD’s are an essential safety device required when carrying out any alterations or additions. Do I need an electrical safety certificate?
As of 1st April 2021 it is a legal requirement that all private rental properties must be inspected and tested and issued with an EICR every 5 years. Although it is not mandatory for privately owned houses to have this, it is advised for peace of mind. We can provide a free visual inspection and give honest advice to home owners.
How much is a new fuse board?
There are a number of factors that may effect the cost of a new consumer unit. The number of circuits, whether or not earth bonding is needed, and the position of the fuse board are a few. We can usually give you an idea over the phone or with the help of a few photos.
